# Environments

> Build against sandbox, ship to live. The endpoints, parameters and responses are identical — only the base URL and the key change.

You have access to two environments. Build in **sandbox**, then move to **live** using the same endpoints when you are production-ready.

| Environment | Base URL | Purpose |
| - | - | - |
| Sandbox | `https://sandbox.trypila.co` | Development and testing. No real money moves. |
| Live | `https://api.trypila.co` | Real customers, real funds. |

Each app has a separate key pair for each environment, both available under **Developers → Configuration** in the dashboard.

## Switching over

Keep the base URL and the key in configuration rather than in code, so the move to production is a deploy rather than a rewrite.

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash .env (sandbox) theme={null}
  PILA_BASE_URL=https://sandbox.trypila.co
  PILA_APP_ID=<your_app_id>
  PILA_SECRET_KEY=<your_sandbox_secret_key>
  ```

  ```bash .env (live) theme={null}
  PILA_BASE_URL=https://api.trypila.co
  PILA_APP_ID=<your_app_id>
  PILA_SECRET_KEY=<your_live_secret_key>
  ```
</CodeGroup>

<Warning>
  Do not commit either file. Load these from your deployment platform's secret store.
